27 Jul 07 NYC Summer Visitors

We’ve been having an awesome visitor-packed summer.

After a quick family visit to Toronto mid-June, we played host to Karyn’s parents for 10 days. We had a great time dining out, shopping and touring the city. Despite the stifling heat, Grampa joined us for our daily walks to and from school. Gramma spent a lot of time looking after the kids, cleaning up and doing laundry. Karyn wonders why her younger self ever wanted to leave home.

Karyn and Marley in the frigid surf at Jones BeachAt the end of June, our good friends Mark and Nancy visited from Montreal to spend a few days with us. During their visit, we rented a Zipcar and drove to Jones Beach, our first trip to the coast since we moved here. Marley loved the ocean and played in it with her mom until Karyn’s feet were numb from the freezing water. And then they played a little longer.

Karyn’s brother Steve and his family Wendy, Lauren, Rachael and Jake made a quick visit at the beginning of July to see us and catch some NYC sites. It was great to spend time with them, even though the visit felt way too short. It’s nice to know we can accommodate 5 visitors comfortably, except on their first night the air mattress leaked and Steve and Jake ended up sleeping on the floor. We wonder whether it was a true leak, or the result of two people of cosiderably different weights sharing the bed.

Nicole enjoys cupcake icingDave’s sister and mom visited for about a week over our birthday-filled weekend July 14/15. Nicole’s first birthday was a great success, with many of our new friends joining us for homemade coconut cupcakes, bubble blowing and other frivolity. Dave’s birthday was a fun time too, especially dinner at Stone Park Cafe, one of our favourite Park Slope restaurants. It was wonderful to spend time with Angela and Nana.

Our final summer visitors will be Jon and Michele, expected next weekend. We can’t wait!

Who’s coming this fall? Book yourself in while you can!
