04 Feb 07 Chocolate Chips and Two Boots

We’ve had a great weekend. Marley was an all-star. Over the last couple of weeks she’s been a challenge. She’s been a little jealous of the attention Nicole has been getting. She has people coming to give her therapy throughout the week and consumes much of Karyn’s time with nursing and the needs of an infant. But this weekend, we made sure Marley had fun. David didn’t have to work for the entire weekend (yay!) so we got out on Saturday to experience our first Chocolate Chip Concert.

Sounds sweet?! You betcha.

After breakfast at the Tea Lounge, we made our way to the Old First Reformed Church on 7th Avenue (about a 10 minute walk from our apartment). We weren’t quite sure what to expect. Tickets were $5 a piece (Nicole was free) and the church hall where the concert was held was packed with about 250 parents and kids ranging from 2 – 6 years old. The theme was opera. David found it a bit of a throwback to his days signing with the Canadian Children’s Opera Chorus. “Baker Bobbie” introduced the kids to a variety of professional opera singers who performed arias from works like The Magic Flute, Hansel and Gretel, Carmen, and Romeo and Juliet.

At the end of the concert, the kids were treated to cookies. Marley loved it. She clapped through most of the show, did a bit of dancing and loved her cookie.

We rounded out the day with dinner at Two Boots in Brooklyn (again, about a 10 minute walk from our apartment). Marley loves it there because they have a window looking into the kitchen where the kids can stand on risers and watch the cooks in action. They also get little balls of pizza dough that they can squish, squash and squeeze to their hearts content.

A fun day was had by everyone.

Sounds like a wonderful weekend all round! Among the many joys of having children is the chance to relive your own childhood, and to experience the wonder of so many things through the eyes of a child. Enjoy it all!
Much love from Nana and Bobo
